چکیده

Recent high-resolution simulations of the formation of dark-matter halos have shown that the distribution of subhalos is scale-free, in the sense that if scaled by the velocity dispersion of the parent halo, the subhalo velocity distribution function of galaxy-sized and cluster-sized halos are identical. For clustersized halos, simulation results agreed well with observations. Simulations, however, predicted far too many subhalos for galaxy-sized halos. Our galaxy has several tens of known dwarf galaxies. On the other hands, simulated dark-matter halos contain thousands of subhalos. We have performed simulation of a single large volume and measured the abundance of subhalos in all massive halos. We found that the variation of the subhalo abundance is very large, and those with largest number of subhalos correspond to simulated halos in previous studies. The subhalo abundance depends strongly on the local density of the background. Halos in high-density regions contain large number of subhalos. Our galaxy is in the low-density region. For our simulated halos in low-density regions, the number of subhalos is within a factor of four to that of our galaxy. We argue that the “missing dwarf problem” is not a real problem but caused by the biased selection of the initial conditions in previous studies, which were not appropriate for field galaxies.

The survival of subhaloes in galaxies and galaxy clusters

This paper discusses physical and numerical disruption processes acting on subhaloes in galaxy haloes and in galaxy cluster haloes, and compare the effects of these processes on the subhalo abundance within both types of haloes. N-body simulations with a resolution high enough not to suffer from overmerging (subhalo disruption due to numerical processes) show a high abundance of subhaloes in bo...

Variation of the subhalo abundance in dark matter halos

We analyzed the statistics of subhalo abundance of galaxy-sized and giantgalaxy-sized halos formed in a high-resolution cosmological simulation of a 46.5Mpc cube with the uniform mass resolution of 10M⊙. We analyzed all halos with mass more than 1.5 × 10M⊙ formed in this simulation box. The total number of halos was 125. We found that the subhalo abundance, measured by the number of subhalos wi...

The Rise of Dwarfs and the Fall of Giants: Galaxy Formation Feedback Signatures in the Halo Satellite Luminosity Function

The observed luminosity function (LF) of satellite galaxies shows several interesting features that require a better understanding of gas-thermodynamic processes and feedback effects related to reionization and galaxy formation. In galaxy clusters, the abundance of dwarf galaxies is in good agreement with the expectation based on the subhalo mass function, whereas in galaxy groups, the relative...

Strong Lensing by Subhalos in the Dwarf-galaxy Mass Range I: Image Separations

The cold dark matter scenario predicts that a large number of dark subhalos should be located within the halo of each Milky-way sized galaxy. One tell-tale signature of such dark subhalos could be additional milliarcsecond-scale image splitting of quasars previously known to be multiply-imaged on arcsecond scales. Here, we estimate the image separations for the subhalo density profiles favoured...

A method to solve the problem of missing data, outlier data and noisy data in order to improve the performance of human and information interaction

Abstract Purpose: Errors in data collection and failure to pay attention to data that are noisy in the collection process for any reason cause problems in data-based analysis and, as a result, wrong decision-making. Therefore, solving the problem of missing or noisy data before processing and analysis is of vital importance in analytical systems. The purpose of this paper is to provide a metho...
